Looking for the perfect place for your next date night, family get together or meal with friends? Read on to discover where you should book next…
On Friday 12th we were invited by W Communications to attend the VIP Preview Party at Bill’s in Reigate. So following my quick visit to the dentists (check up on filing yay) we headed to the event to discover what the new look Bill’s has to offer…..
For anyone who hasn’t heard of or eaten at Bill’s yet I urge you to visit, now in it’s eighteenth year, with 21 restaurants up and down the UK this welcoming and home-from-home restaurant offers fresh, seasonal food in a warming yet quirky atmosphere. See below my invite to the VIP Preview Party (I was delighted to be approached).
The VIP preview evening was delightful from start to finish. It included a drinks reception and the chance to sample some of the delicious canapés from the newly refreshed menu. It was also a evening all about celebrating what makes rei-GREAT with a talk from Bill Collison and the Mayor of Reigate, Dorothy.
Being a food blogger and self confessed foodie, attending the event was a real delight and we had a wonderful evening. So if you are looking for a restaurant for your next date night, special get together with family or reunion with friends I highly recommend you picking Bill’s and here is why…..
The first Bill’s restaurant was opened back in 2001 as Bill Collison told us in his speech at the event and ever since it’s become a important part of a communities across the UK even choosing to support local charities. Which in the case of Reigate is the James and the Giant Pledge (seeking to beat childhood cancer).
The Bill’s in Reigate is located within a pretty terrace on the High street. Newly refurbished in October it’s full of character – with a rustic chic feel and buzzing atmosphere. The shabby-chic decor includes an industrial steel exposed ceiling and a eclectic collection of furnishings and items. It really does feel like you’ve stepped into someone’s home. As Dorothy the Mayor proclaimed “all the best people in the area come to Bill’s”.
During the evening we were given a variety of canapé samples of the new look menu. These smaller scale items gave us a ideal insight into the diverse range of starters, mains and desserts on offer. Which helped us decide on some favourites for when we next visit;
Mine being the succulent pork dumplings served with smoked chilli and soy dip. Dumplings are one of my favourite Asian dishes and these had a really lovely spicy twist which created a great tang for your taste buds. The goats cheese and beetroot arancini was heavenly and the flavours were balanced perfectly. I think I’d have to say thought I was most delighted by the sticky toffee pudding, I’ve never really been a massive fan of this dessert. But after having the one at Bill’s I have been converted – served with clotted cream ice cream and toasted hazelnuts I feel in love with this dish and can’t wait to try the fall size version when I next visit Bill’s.
My boyfriend Chris also fell in love with the new dishes, ones that he wouldn’t normally pick if he hadn’t the chance to try them out during the VIP Preview event. First of all he was taken aback by the tasty grilled chicken and parmesan salad, for anyone who knows Chris this is a miracle (not really a fan of salads even he will admit). Then the real delight and surprise for us both that evening; the vegan friendly Carrot, mushroom and cashew nut wellington. Words simply can’t do this dish justice served with a rich vegetable gravy. I didn’t get chance to photograph it because it was so incredible that we were both proclaiming ‘wow’ on repeat for several minutes… Chris even said ‘how did they make carrots taste SO good?!”. Safe to say I think we will be ordering that dish again. Then of course his favourite dessert? – the cinnamon doughnut which reminded us fondly of our trips to Camden together.
No meal would be complete without a tasty cocktail right? The new look Bill’s has a variety of options for you to delight your taste buds with. We sampled the Apple & Elderflower Spritz, the Gingerbread White Russian and the Bill’s Collins. Our favourite was the Apple & Elderflower Spritz but the menu caters for everyone’s taste buds from sweet drink lovers to those seeking sour tipples.
After our wonderful evening sampling the new menu at Bill’s we can’t wait to go back and enjoy full size versions of our favourite dishes. We plan on returning to Bill’s in Reigate for a date night very soon and wish to thank the team at W Communications for our invite to the VIP Preview Party and big thank you for the friendly welcome we received from Bill and his wonderful staff at the Reigate Restaurant.
If you are looking for a Bill’s closer to where you live, why not have a look and see if your local branch has a table? I promise you will have a delightful dining experience.
